In true Austin fashion for his 40th birthday he planned a trip for us. And for us I really mean for Campbell. This trip revolved around her love of basketball. We flew out of Charleston and direct into Boston. We stayed at the Onyx Downtown which was a short walking distance to the garden. The original plan had been for the three of us to attend two games. However knowing how much Campbell loves Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors I sat the first game out. Austin scored some amazing tickets for two of them. They had a great time and Golden State won!
The next day was cold and dreary but that didn't put a damper in our plans. We had lunch at Union Oyster house which is America's oldest restaurant. There is a lot of cool history in this restaurant and definitely a must see for anyone who visits Boston. It is located along the freedom trail. If the weather would have been nicer I would've loved to walk along the Freedom Trail, but we will save that for summer. Yes I did have a jacket for Campbell, and no she would not wear it :-)
Next up we did add in the Boston Tea Party Museum. It was cool to learn about but Campbell had also studied in third grade. It was a little cheesy but a fun reenactment.
Next up it was back to the Garden to watch the Celtic take on the Knicks. I had warned Campbell beforehand that this would not be like the Carolina games where she is able to high five the players. Well she proved me wrong high fiving several players including Kemba Walker and getting sleeves from Jaylon Brown and Marcus Smart. Lesson learned, never put anything past Campbell. Austin again scored up amazing tickets and we even showed up on TV!
Sunday we rented a car and headed to the basketball hall of fame. Our basketball loving girl had the best time and we ever recognized a few of our favorite people inside.
Next up we headed back to Ware to visit our friend Nick's restaurant. Nick was one of Austin's college roommates and I haven't seen him in years. We had the best food and the best time catching up with Nick.
We made our way back to Boston and checked into Encore, this is the part of the trip for Austin. Monday Campbell and I ventured out. We ended up walking around the Harvard campus and doing a tour of Fenway Park.
Few things she loves more than room service |
We headed back to the hotel and had dinner with Austin at Mystique.
Tuesday morning we headed back home. We had a wonderful time in Boston celebrating Austin. We will definitely be back to visit but next time during the summer!
