Campbell Grace Childers

We arrived at the hospital around 8am on Friday April 8th to prepare for the arrival of Campbell. It didn't take long for them to get me back and get everything started. I felt extremely at ease with our C-section nurse Reba. Our friend Shanna is a labor and delivery nurse at Baptist and had told Reba all about Austin and me so that made me feel better. I was extremely nervous about the surgery itself. My first fear was the iv in my hand. Reba attempted to put the iv in my arm to start with but was unsuccessful so she had to do it in my hand. I got two bags of IV fluid and we thought that my C-section would be able to start a little bit earlier but our doctor had a delivery come up so we went with went the original scheduled time. I walked back to the operating room and of course was left alone as Austin was not allowed to be in there while I was getting my spinal. My second fear with the spinal, especially once I saw the size of the needle. Honestly the spinal wasn't that bad but the numbing shot before that was especially uncomfortable. I felt pressure when I got my spinal but after that everything below my breast was numb. I was completely aware of what was going on but couldn't feel anything. It was the oddest thing knowing that it would only be a few short minutes until she was here. I felt my body being moved around and then the doctor said okay Daddy stand up if you want to take pictures. And then I heard her cry, that is honestly the best sound I have ever heard. And of course I started sobbing, they took her to the nursery to be cleaned off and for the pediatrician to look at her. Then I was given morphine to help me relax and was stapled up and it wasn't long before I was wheeled into recovery. We couldn't have had a more pleasant experience with my C-section and if we decide to have another I feel certain we would do a scheduled C-section. I remember Friday very clearly but was obviously my spinal lasted well into Saturday morning.

Campbell Grace Childers arrived at 10:32am 4/8/11 and was 5 lbs 15 ounces and 19 inches long. I honestly did not realize how much I would love her until I heard her cry. So far being her mommie has been the biggest blessing in life. I'll go ahead and post some pictures now and update more later.
